My story

John Cottingham was, and still is, an amazing husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, friend, and all round great bloke.

Nothing was ever too much for John, “I’ll sort it” and “let me help” were his catch phrases (along with many more!)

He always had a beaming smile, which brought light to everyone. He will be sadly missed by many, many people.

In August 2011 he was diagnosed with advanced kidney cancer after years of mis-diagnosis by his GP, on November 10 2011, John lost his battle against this demon. Things were very cruel during his last few weeks. He fought to the very last minute. All of his family are so proud of him; he has taught us so much, loved us, laughed with us and supported us.. ..We will miss him so, but he will always be in our hearts.

By supporting Kidney Cancer UK, awareness of this silent killer will be raised with all GPs, and hopefully early diagnosis will save lives, as the incidents of young men, (especially in the construction arena) being affected by this disease, is on the increase.
