Something should be done about Ovarian Cancer

Don’t we all feel that when someone we know and love is diagnosed with this terrible killer? But it really comes home to you when the victim is one of your family or a close friend.
Something “should be done” you rage.

But what? Well you can rage or you can do something - and I have decided to do something.

What can I do? Well, it will come as no surprise to any of you that I have decided to cycle.
And by cycle I mean all the way around France.

Why am I writing this? It’s simple. I would like you to sponsor me so that every one of the 2800 kilometres I ride will count for something other than my own sense of achievement.

14th Tour Cyclotouriste International

This tour starts on 17 June at St Die des Vosges in the Vosges Region of France and finishes there 21 days later

We will have ridden 2800 kms, (1,750miles) We will have climbed over 34000 metres (110,000ft) which includes 26 Cols (passes).

This is not a race, more a personally challenging endurance test and as you would imagine I have been training for this since the end of 2011 By the end of March I had ridden over 3,000kms.

Why am I doing this?

Last year our daughter-in-law Christine, at the age of 42 and the mother of our granddaughter Elizabeth aged just 13 at the time, literally overnight went from leading a happy, healthy life to being diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer.
Christine went through chemotherapy before major surgery with further therapy after that over a period of many months.
One year on Christine is doing well and all signs are positive . All we can do now is to wait and see what happens over the years to come.

What can/could you do?

This will be the most gruelling, challenging (cycle) ride of my life and I am asking you to help me. Help me to keep riding the 2800 kms to the end. I know I will pedal that much harder and stay the course if I can tell myself that every kilometre pedalled will raise 1€.
2800 kms = 2800€ which will all go to support Ovacome who in their turn support the women and their families afflicted by this disease.

Please let me know if you are willing to sponsor me and for how much. It will help immeasurably to ride through those tough days when all I will want to do is get off the bike and jack it in.

The thought of every woman like Christine and their families suddenly having their lives thrown into unbelievable disarray and discovering they have a huge fight on their hands to get through this terrible ordeal will give me the inspiration I am going to need and your support will be a much needed inspiration to help me along the way.
