Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In 2006 I walked 220 km of the Camino Frances finishing in Santiago de Compestella and raised £1200 for the Prostate Cancer Charity. The Camino Frances is a northern Pilgrimage Route for St James and about 130000 people complete at least part of the Camino.

This year a friend and I are going to walk 358 km of the Via de la Plata which is the southern route of the Camino. The total journey  from Seville to Santiago de Compestella is about 1000km I believe.  We are walking from Merida(just north of Seville) to Zamora which is to the north of Salamanca.

About 10000 people walk the route each year and hostels shops and facilities generally will be scarce except in the bigger towns. We will be staying in hostels and carrying everything we need in rucksacks which will probably weigh about 13 kg.Incidentally both my friend and I are aged over 65.

I chose to support The Prostate Cancer Charity as I am a member of The Rotary Club of Hitchin Tilehouse and some years ago the Club decided to support this charity and, to date, has raised over £30,000 to assist its activities.
