The Free Representation Unit (FRU) is a charity dedicated to providing free legal representation to those who cannot afford to pay, before Tribunals in the Greater London area where legal-aid is unavailable. Founded in 1972, FRU is one of the country's foremost providers of free legal service.

Story

It’s that time of year again! John Hendy QC, the Free Representation Unit’s very own Cycling Silk, is riding the annual 110km hilly Cape Argus Cycle Race round the Cape Town peninsular on 8 March 2015 to raise money for FRU. John was one of the founders of FRU over 40 years ago. In February he was again in the Court of Appeal on a complex labour law case instructed by FRU. This will be his 14th Cape Argus ride raising funds for FRU.

John says: "in 1972 we had no idea that FRU would become one of the country’s foremost free legal service providers . Last year, volunteers took over 700 cases. With the destruction of Legal Aid FRU is needed more than ever and it needs donations to survive."

Please support John in his fundraising efforts for FRU.

Donating through this site is simple, fast and totally secure. It is also the most efficient way to sponsor John: FRU will receive your money faster and, if you are a UK taxpayer, an extra 28% in tax will be added to your gift at no cost to you. Many thanks for your support.
