We support Leeds Teaching Hospitals staff to deliver the best care for our patients
Story
Thank you for visiting my 'justgiving' webpage...... I hope the pictures of my scantily-clad body won't put you off giving!!!
Cancer hits us all, either by contracting it directly, or through a relative or friend getting the disease. I was fortunate that, even though my lump was malignant, I got through the whole affair relatively unscathed, and was left in a position where I'm now able to do something to help others who have found themselves facing this scarey disease.
Me and my one-and-a-half legs are going to do the Great North Run, and are really hoping to have your financial support as we wobble our way around the 13.6 mile course. All the money will go to the two hospitals who treated me.
I'm only able to do a half marathon because Mac-the-Knife (aka: Paul Cool) had to remove a lemon-sized lump from the muscle that used to help me walk, and held me upright On top of that, the radiotherapy affected the remaining muscles, which might possibly have taken over from the removed one.The physiotherapy team have done absolute wonders, but I’m only likely to be able to walk the 13.6 miles. However, I’ll be really chuffed if I can run for the occasional half mile section. Therefore: 4 hours is my target time, but if you’d like to promise a little extra if I do it under this time, it will be inspiration during the perspiration!.... Go on, bet me I can't do it!!!
If you use this on-line sponsorship facility (PURPLE BUTTON at the top of the page... Helen!!), the money will go to the new cancer unit at St James Hospitalhttp://www.cookridgeappeal.org/ which will eventually replace the Cookridge Unit where I went for radiotherapy, and where they still monitor me, in case it spreads.
If you'd prefer to pledge money to the hospital at Oswestry, http://www.rjah.nhs.uk/where I was diagnosed and operated on, please e-mail me j.lewis@csl.gov.uk and I'll send you an electronic version of the form, that you can return (once you've circulated it around family, friends and colleagues) to Caroline at:
Caroline Pemberton c/o Tumour Unit RJAH Orthopaedic Hospital Oswestry Shropshire England
Cheques for the Oswestry hospital should (eventually) be made out to 'Oncology Fund'. It would also be good if you could write 'lumpless Lewis' on the back, so we can keep track of pledges. Please DON'T send cash.
This money will be used in a new clinic (under construction), which is specifically designed to provide conselling and support for people who've just been diagnosed......
Wherever you'd like your money to go, I'll be identifying a piece of equipment that I would have appreciated being available during my treatment. £480 has already been raised at a Lewis-family 'bash' last christmas, and I'm really hoping to be able to add a nought to that figure by the end of the year..... and that's where I need YOUR help!!
So, be good, be GENEROUS!
Thanks
John (lumpless) Lewis
