Sheffield Poem-a-thon for refugees and asylum seekers · 2 April 2016

ASSIST works with people in Sheffield who have been refused asylum in the UK. They are evicted from their Home Office accommodation and forced into destitution. We provide our clients with stable, dignified accommodation, regular financial support and a person-centred casework service.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page. Last year we raised over £500 for Parkinson's UK, following John's diagnosis. This year we hope to help refugees and asylum seekers, joining a group of 48 poets who feel strongly about their plight.

Asylum seekers are not allowed to work, register themselves as homeless or be placed in local authority night centres. Many become destitute, struggling daily for food, accommodation and clothing. ASSIST exists to help with food, accommodation, travel expenses and support for those in need.

Entry is free and the event will last from 10.00am to 6.00pm, with book stalls, refreshments and more. Any other cash raised from sales on the day will go to refugees in Northern France
