Story

Hi,

I am running the Brighton Marathon on April 18th 2010 to raise money for Scope as a good friend of mine Paul has a daughter with Cerebral Palsy called Tehya and she is quite an inspiration to me and many others. Once the charity gave Teyha a specially adapted bike to help her to ride around with other kids, so she and a friend set up a fund raiser at her school and managed to raise over £1,000 for the charity. Teyha is fearless, brave and someone to look up to rather than down to.....so I want to help a charity that helps children with a tricky start in life.

I have never run a marathon, in fact the longest I have ever run is at school doing cross country which is about 2 miles and I soon learnt to bring in a sick note to avoid that. So it's been a good 15 years of lazy, slackness that led me to a grand weight of 101kg! As it was November at the time, I feared that Turkeys may be replaced with lazy humans as the credit crunch took more of a bite. So I decided in November 2009 to enter the Brighton Marathon, to lose weight, to get fit and do something for someone else. I started training January 18th 2010 (as I had read a book about training in 3 months so I thought that's perfect, I'll start exactly 3 months before).

But with all the snow and man flu and of course, my 30th birthday I found it almost impossible to train. So I started training properly Febraury 16th and ran a half marathon last weekend in Brighton in preperation. Now, I don't have much time to train for the other half but I don't want to peak too soon as I am determined to get to the end. And don't worry those who think I'll just walk it....as there is "Sweep Truck" (no not Sweet!) that picks up the slackers who aren't running at the back of the group, so my back up plan is foiled and I will have to run the whole ruddy route.

I know it's not an easy time financially for many people so just donate what you can, £5 is fantastic, £10 if you can afford it and more if you wish to. Don't go out of your comfort zone....let me do that in the final 24 miles!

Thanks a lot in advance, and those who are free on Sunday 18th April for a beachy Sunday in Brighton and to see where your money is going, please come down and have a laugh/support me to the finish line.

Johnny
