In April I am competing in the Marathon Des Sables - a 240km race across the Sahara, roughly 6 marathons over 6 days.  There are about 1000 competitors, and we each have to carry everything we need for the entire week (except water which is provided at checkpoints every 10 miles).  So will start with a backpack of around 20lbs, daytime temperatures often get above 40C, nights can be chilly.  Terrain is a mix of sand-dunes, mountains, and rocky plains.

Through this I hope to raise funds for a very worthwhile charity, WaterAid, which works to ensure poor people living in remote places (especially Africa) have access to clean safe water.
