Update 22/09 ...
The Great North run is now over and I’m proud to say that I managed to struggle my way around the course ably assisted with the support of my wife Gonul. (She had planned to run but on medical advice had to unfortunately pull out.) The amazing support from the crowds with their cheering, sweets and drinks on a damp, drizzly day and the spirit of all the runners was a truly enjoyable and memorable experience. There was a very poignant moment before the start when the announcer asked the runners to spend 5 minutes thinking about the causes for which they were running and dearly departed ones, whilst abide with me played … no more motivation was needed.

I suppose that most people who take part in charity events have a story and I am no different to them ...
I am taking part in the 2010 Great North Run on the 19th September ... and why am I undertaking such madness?
Well in part I am doing it for myself and part for my wife's dearly departed brother, Mem. We both have suffered from heart problems during our lives and sadly Mem passed away in his 40's just over 2 years ago.
I myself had a quadruple heart bypass nearly 4 years ago, which was required due to the side-effects of radiotherapy some 20 years ago.
I am running for The British Heart Foundation and aiming to raise over £500 for them; if you could give generously then I would be eternally grateful.
