Story
My first event for SOLAR AID is going to be to cycle the Cheshire Cat - a 62 mile circuit of Cheshire that takes in the infamous Mow Cop 'killer mile' - check out the photo's!
The background to selecting SOLAR AID is as follows:
My son Tom's primary school (Upton Heath in Chester) has been raising money to build a solar powered outdoor classroom in their playground. The project - named The Hive - will help educate the children about renewable energy and provide a space for learning about the environment. Through SOLAR AID this learning will be extended to demonstrate how renewable energy can improve peoples lives in another part of the world
SOLAR AID aims to spread solar technology throughout Sub Saharan Africa to replace dangerous and polluting kerosine and candles. Very few people enjoy grid connected power, so solar powered lighting can make a real difference to peoples lives. For more information - check out their website.
Here are some examples of where the money goes:
£10 buys two student lamps
£100 provides two larger household systems
£1000 powers a whole school
