In February 2012 Jon and Wendy will be flying out to Tanzania for 12 days; 8 of which will be spent climbing up Mt. Kilimanjaro via the Lemosho Route. We will also be spending some time at the Amani Children's Home in Moshi, nestled in the foothills of Kilimanjaro; an amazing home for street children and AIDS orphans - you can read more at www.amanikids.org Unlike so many charity challenges, we have funded the entire trip ourselves so that every penny we raise goes exactly where it is supposed to - TO THE CHILDREN.
The problem of homeless children in Tanzania is growing daily due to one of the world's poorest economies, HIV/AIDS and weakening family ties. While trying to survive on the streets, children regularly face hunger, sickness and abuse. Without someone to rescue them, they have no hope for the future. Since 2001 Amani Children's Home has been committed to rescuing street children and orphans and providing a nurturing place for them to heal, grow and learn.The aim is to reunite children with their relatives when possible and create a path for each child that leads to a future filled with hope.
