Story
Hi,
Thanks for visiting our fund raising page.
Our challenge is to climb Mount Kilimanjaro with a group of other volunteers in order to raise as much money as we possibly can for Macmillan Cancer Relief.
Our adventure starts on the 21st of October, when after a flight to Kilimanjaro Airport and a brief overnight stay, we will spend the following 7 days and 6 nights on the mountain hoping to reach the summit on October the 28th.
We will have to hike on average 7-9 hours a day with a 14 hour day planned for the day we attempt to summit. The summit attempt will start at 11:00pm in the dark and at temperatures below -10 Deg
We will have to battle with Fatigue, exposure to the elements, Altitude sickness and worst of all 6 nights in a 2 man tent trying to cope with the smells and noises associated with two "big lads" acclimatising to the food and drink abroad!!!
We have starting our training with regular visits to the gym and trying to eat healthily.
We had our first hiking weekend a few weeks ago, when we went to Dartmoor. On the first day we hiked for over 5 hours covering more than 12 miles in very demanding conditions. The plan was to then stay the night in a local pub and walk again in the morning. Unfortunately by Saturday morning we had huge blisters, sore toes and very sore heads, so walking was the last thing we could do.
We are planning more hiking trips in the next few weeks with a greater focus on the hiking and less on the local hospitality .
I will attempt to keep this page updated with our training progress
Well i have gone on long enough and it just leaves me to ask you to donate as much as you possibly can, so we can raise lots of money for this most worth while cause. ( how to donate is explained below)
Kind Regards
Jon
