Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We've done some crazy things before but this is Tim's first triathlon and Jon's first sprint triathlon (he's done a super sprint). We signed up to support Thinking of Oscar and David & Hannah's vision to help support children in hospital care.
During the evening of Thursday 6th June 2014, I (Tim) sat in our cricket club watching Uruguay beat England in the world cup (2-1). David Cole, our cricket captain, wasn't there, Oscar his 16 month year old son, had gone into hospital for an unusual but non life threatening infection.
I remember the next day, Friday, sitting at my desk stunned and in shock, after hearing Oscar had died, thinking how can that happen...?!
Thinking of Oscar charity was set up in the wake of Oscar's death by his parents David and Hannah Cole. It has the objective of improving the experiences of young children and their families whilst in hospital care. (http://thinkingofoscar.com/)
Last year David and 49 friends participated in the Blenheim Palace Triathlon in order to raise money and awareness for Thinking of Oscar. Together they raised more than £60,000. This year David and Hannah are both doing it and this time the squad will be made up of 100 participants, including us. The aim this year, 2016, is to raise £100,000 collectively to reach our goal of funding a new Paediatric Procedures Unit for the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford and also to be able to fund other such initiatives and innovation to support children and their families whist in hospital care.
We will all be doing the sprint triathlon, which involves:
- 750 m Swim
- 20 Km Cycle
- 5.5 Km Run
