Story

On April 10th 2 Dads and 2 sons are setting off to cycle coast to coast starting at Morecambe and finishing in Bridlington. This will consist of 172 miles climbing to an altitude of 1200 ft so is not a walk in the park for a novice such as me and my 11 year old son Ryan. All the Dads are in their forties and the lads are two 11 year olds so I am sure they will give us some pain. Paul and Sam Hargraves (11) are raising funds for Alder Hey imagine appeal.

Macmillan help so many families and I have my own reasons for supporting Macmillan and all the worthwhile work they do.

Our trip consists of:

Tuesday 10th April- arrive at Morecambe approx 10am to dip the back wheels in the sea at the start point of the Way of the Roses coast to coast cycle route. The 1st leg of the journey is a 37 mile hike upto the hills of Settle reaching an altitude of 800 feet before collapsing in our accomodation for a hot bath, refreshments and then a good nights sleep.

Wednesday 11th April- Full English breakfast then leave Settle for the 43 mile drag to the cathedral city of Ripon. The first 15 miles of the day are the hardest of the whole journey, with hills all the way and reaching an altitude of 1,200 feet. Very hard hills but then a fast decent into Ripon. If we make it all the way we will definitely deserve our refreshments this night.

Thursday 12th April- Full English breakfast (again) then the longest ride of the trip of 50 miles to the charming village of Pocklington travelling through the medieval town of York on route. Mainly flat ride but needed after the torture of the previous day. A few more refreshments then early to bed to rest the aching limbs.

Friday 13th April- Full English breakfast (obviously) then the final leg of the journey to Bridlington. 42 mile ride with a few climbs early in the day followed by the most pictureque part of the journey travelling through the Yorkshire Wolds. Arrive in Bridlington approx 4pm to dip our front wheels in the sea then crack open the bubbly to wash down the fish and chip dinner on the promenade.
