Howdy,

Firstly I'd like to say thank you for taking the trouble for looking at my page.

This time I'm not running anywhere, I'm taking part in the Morocco Hitch 2010.

About the hitch:

Basically every easter thousands of students across the country decide to hitchhike their way to Morocco (roughly 1200 miles) paying little or no money on their transportation. The aim is to raise lots of money in sponsorship for the charity that organises it, Link Community Development, and to have fun while doing so. It takes on average about a week, however our team believes it has what it takes to do it in far less. (Ollie speaks Spanish. Jon is really, really ridiculously good looking). We also plan on roughing it all the way in a tent rather than paying for hotels.

About the charity:

Link Community Development is a charity which helps improve education and health in Sub-Saharan Africa. (Predominantly in Ghana, Ethiopia, South Africa, Uganda and Malawi). To improve education it collects data to work out where schools can be improved, trains teachers and head teachers, recruits global teachers to undertake placements in African schools and facilitates projects to improve literacy. LCD also does a lot of work to do with AIDS/HIV. It trains communities to come up with action plans which aim to prevent/reduce the spreading of AIDS and HIV, and help those who have it. It also organises schemes to help orphans and vulnerable children who have got AIDS/HIV or have been affected by it. They aim to build a 'circle of support' for these children in order to ensure they are fed properly and are well cared for.

What you can do:

I'm sure you'll agree that the charity sounds like a worthwhile cause, and the things I've mentioned above are just a few of the activities LCD is involved with. (To find out more please go to http://www.lcdinternational.org/)

Please note: All of the money Ollie and I spend on travel/food etc on the hitch will come out of our own pocket. The money you donate on this page will go straight to the charity, not to us!

We have been given a target of raising £350 for LCD so please scrape up any loose change/unwanted banknotes etc and donate. Obviously the more you donate the better, but every little counts so a quid or two would do nicely!

Thanks once again amigos!

Jon
