Ricko finally does London

London Marathon 2019 · 28 April 2019 ·
I first became a supporter of Clic Sargent in 2010 when they set up Paul’s House in Huntley Street, London which I walked past daily. This provides a place for young patient’s families to stay during their treatment when they are at Great Ormond Street or my workplace, University College London Hospital.
Five years on I received the devastating news that my close friend’s four year old son, Zeke, had been diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia. Only a year before we had been to his first football match, and now he was receiving inpatient treatment in Queen’s Medical Centre for this incredibly serious condition. Throughout that time Clic Sargent have provided excellent support to Zeke and his family. So much so that a fund has been set up, Zeke’s fund, to raise money for the charity. Thankfully Zeke is now getting close to finishing his treatment, although there have been a few recent reminders of how long and difficult the road to full recovery from this awful illness is. An illness that too many young children are affected by.
It is an absolute honour to raise money for this charity, but also for this little legend who has kept me smiling during many a dull football match, and has battled so bravely. The memory of what he has gone through over these past three years will push me round the London course.
Best start doing some training…
