Story
I have worked with young people in various contexts since I was 18. I have seen the potential in hundreds of young people, many of whom are now becoming the men and women which God intended them to become.
I also know that there are young people in England who just want to be given a chance; an opportunity; an opening. They want to be believed in. They're eager to try. And that's where we at the YMCA come in. We give young people a chance. We provide them with the skills and the qualifications to become the people whom God created them to be. We don't give up on them, but we work with them over the long-haul.
50% of the money raised will go to our work with the YMCA here in Rotherham, Sheffield and Wakefield, whilst the remaining 50% will go to our work with the YMCA on a national basis. We believe that one of our strengths as a YMCA is our ability to work with real young people on the ground, whilst also working together to be a voice for young people at a national level.
Locally, we work with young people with disabilities in Rotherham, providing them with high quality after-school youth clubs and residential holidays during school holidays. We run the MyPlace Youth and Community Centre in Eastwood, providing high quality youth work in that area of Rotherham.
In Sheffield, we run a Schools Enterprise Project, equipping school pupils with the skills and experience to raise finances for other people less fortunate than themselves.
In Wakefield, our projects include Step-In, a project which supports young people who are homeless, and WYAC, a youth and community hub on the Lupset Estate.
We also run the Aurora Youth and Children's Ministry Courses with the Anglican Diocese and Cliff College which runs across our region to help resource the local Church in its youth and children's work.
Do give what you can to help us support young people both locally and nationally.
