I therefore decided to see if I can go even further this year with a full marathon. Training so far has gone well. I am now up to running around half marathon distances again and have so far lost around 8kg (1st 3pounds) in weight. With around two months of training left to go I have the aims of losing a bit more weight, getting up to the full race distance and raising a good amount of money for the good cause below.

The Charity

I am running for a charity called PONT. This is a great small local charity that is looking at reducing poverty and improving the lives of the people of Uganda. The Charity works by pairing organizations in Wales with the equivalent in Uganda. For example it has Doctors working out there to improve health care, Teachers helping to improve the local schools and many other groups helping develop their respective skills in Uganda. So far I have been linked to projects including setting up a new motorbike ambulance service, developing an equivalent to a GP network and improving the main A+E department in Mbale, Uganda.

However I am now also working on a new project to help create a fire service within Mbale. With the closure of a local factory within Wales we have been given a Fire Engine for free. Its hardly been used and in excellent condition. Our aim is to get it out there and help train the local police force to use the equipment safely. This will be the first and only Fire Engine this area has ever had and there is a real need for such equipment. A recent fire just destroyed their local shopping area ruining shops, stalls and livelihoods and all because locals had no real way of fighting the fire once it had started. All money raised will go towards the transport costs of getting the vehicle over there. Everyone involved with the charity including those traveling to Uganda to help with training and setting up are fully self funding and therefore you can be assured 100% of your donation is going be used to get this Fire Engine to Uganda. Its a great charity and a great project and I hope you will be able to help us achieve this goal.
