Brain Tumour UK has merged with The Brain Tumour Charity to become the UK's largest dedicated brain tumour charity. We fund research and offer support and information to those affected whilst raising awareness and influencing policy.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

In June 2012 I will be riding from London to Paris (approximately 500 km or 350 miles) in aid of Brain Tumour UK.

Brain Tumour UK is the leading, caring charity providing

support, funding research and raising awareness, for

everyone affected by a brain tumour. They are backed by a

host of celebrity Patrons, governed by experienced Trustees

and run by a professional management team so that

your donations make a real difference.

My personal reason behind riding for BTUK is that I was diagnosed with a brain tumour in June 2009, and have required two surgeries and radiotherapy. Currently my tumour doesn't seem to be growing, but the type of tumour I have means that recurrence is possible in the future. Brain tumours are best described as a "cinderella condition", meaning that they lack the research & funding that other forms of cancer do. Currently brain tumours are one of the leading forms of cancer death in chiuldren & adults under the age of 40.

To add to my reasons behind supporting Brain Tumour UK my cousin was also diagnosed with a more aggressive type of brain tumour than mine in December 2010, which has come as a massive shock to all of my family members.

I initially wanted to complete this ride in June 2011 but a total lack of training means that realistically I have to delay. I want to complete the ride in June as a personal challenge to be on the bike either for the anniversary of my diagnosis (2nd June) or my first surgery (9th June). All being well with my next MRI scan in August then I will be able to start training and aim to finish comfortably next June.
