Peru Machu Picchu Trek 2018 · 4 October 2018 to 13 October 2018 ·

Far too many of us have felt the pain of losing someone we love. With your donations, we power groundbreaking cardiovascular research to save and improve lives, bring hope to families, and keep hearts beating across the UK.

Story

After the success of last year's BHF Great Wall Challenge, we couldn't let this be our last fundraising trek!

We met some courageous and determined people who had their lives, and family's lives, changed from the vital funds and research conducted from the British Heart Foundation.

We are set to make our mark again in the 'fight for every heartbeat' by taking part in the Machu Picchu Trek which is taking place 4-13 October 2018.

This is a tough and exhausting challenge which involves following the Inca Trail, reaching an altitude of 4,600m, peaking at the scared Machu Picchu (Peru). We have never walked at this altitude before and this in itself will be difficult to overcome.

We have decided to take part as we have had personal experiences of close family members with heart disease. For those of you that are not aware, Tina lost her father John in 1982 to heart disease, when she was only 16 years old. Her sister Liz was born with a hole in the heart and a missing heart valve. As a baby, she had pioneering heart surgery back in 1956 at Great Ormond Street hospital, London. She had 3 further major operations, so successful that she was able to have 3 children and live to the age of 57 years old. Two of her uncles have had triple heart bypasses and her older brother Ray also underwent a similar operation - quadruple heart bypass 5 years ago.

We feel that vital research into heart disease has touched and extended the lives of our family members. All money raised will help BHF scientists continue their good work.

Heart disease is still the UK's single biggest killer, claiming 73,000 lives a year. Progress is being made but there are still millions of adults and children who need help.

THIS IS A SELF FUNDING CHALLENGE WITH 100% OF YOUR DONATIONS GOING STRAIGHT TO THE BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION.

Thank you for your generousity. xx
