Kilimanjaro 10 day - MACHAME ROUTE with Discover Adventure · 12 August 2016 to 21 August 2016 ·

At Alzheimer’s Society we’re working towards a world where dementia no longer devastates lives. We do this by giving help to those living with dementia today, and providing hope for the future by campaigning to make dementia the priority it should be and funding groundbreaking research.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving. In August 2016, I successfully climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest mountain in Africa (5895m/19,341ft) to raise money for the Alzheimer's Society, a cause very close to my heart.

Having lost both my Great Auntie and my Nana in the past 2 years to the disease, and my Granny currently a sufferer, I have witnessed first hand what it is like for a family to look after and care for somebody whose essence and being is slowly but surely disappearing. With the ageing population, I know I am not alone in having to deal with situations like this, and so I understand the trouble people have to go through and the pain people feel when family members are affected.

The trek was naturally a challenge but I am so proud to have reached the summit and raised over £5000 for the Alzheimer's Society. I couldn't have done it without all of your support!

Thank you,

Jonny :)
