Story

Hi everyone

As most of you will know I attempted my channel crossing 7th October at 12.30.  I was making excellent progress making the English shipping lane in 2h 30 mins and the French shipping lane at 5h 30 mins which is about 6 miles off the French coast.

However, at my 4 hour feed I was violently sick and from there on unable to keep down any energy drinks given to me.  From 6h30 into my swim I was unable to battle the tides and was dragged down the coast line never getting any nearer.  Up to this point I was on for a sub 10 hour swim which would have been amazing, but not to be.

The decsion was taken to pull me out after 9 hours as it would have  been 6 hours before the tide turned and then another 4 hours to reach French soil.  I was not in a fit state to last that long in 15c water, and also turning my swim into 20 hours.

I wanted to thank everyone for their very generous donations, the story is not over, just having a break like me.  Once again, thankyou ever so much on behalf of the Hospice in the Weald.

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

I have decided to take the plunge and live out a dream to swim the English Channel Solo, yes it will be cold, there will be lots of jelly fish, and some unmentionables I'm sure.  However, come high tide in late September / early October, I will be dipping my toes into the Channel not to emerge again for about 14 hours on the French Coast some 22 miles away.

I want raise as much money as possible for Hospice in the Weald. I have seen first hand the exceptional care and support that my father-in-law recieved during his final days there.  They also provided tremendous support to the whole family during that very tough time.

The Hospice care is provided to patients free of charge based on need and they need approximately £4million each year to fund all their services.  It costs around £1,750 per week for the Hospice to provide a specialist In-Patient bed and £3,000 meets all the costs associated with the average length of stay for an in-patient at the Hospice.

I will personally be paying for all costs associated with the swim  and can therefore assure everyone that all donations will go directly to the Hospice.
