On 5th August 2010, Jonty, Jeremy, Fred and Matt will be leaving Lands End, Cornwall, and cycling the length of England and Scotland to John O'Groats, the northernmost point of Scotland. We will be covering around 1000 miles in 15 days, and as yet have noooo done any training so are expecting it to be a long hard slog. We do not have a support team for the first 10 days so are also carrying all our clothes and equipment on our bikes.
We are doing this to raise money for Stop the Traffik, a charity which aims to combat human trafficking, which Jonty and Jeremy's mother Katie is involved with and which is close to our hearts. Trafficking is where humans are taken against their will, bought, sold and transported into
slavery for sexual exploitation, sweat shops, child brides, circuses,
sacrificial worship, forced begging, sale of human organs and other similarly nefarious practices. Trafficking occurs in every city in the UK, as well as worldwide.
Children are sold for as little as $20 each, on to local gangmasters or serious organised international trafficking rings. Victims usually suffer repeated physical abuse, fear, torture and threats to families to break their spirits and turn them into saleable commodities. Unfortunately the problem is growing, with 2-4 million men, women and children trafficked across borders and within their own country every year. This is a trade that earns twice as much worldwide annual revenue as Coca-Cola. It is modern-day slavery and must stop.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
So please dig deep and give as much as you can, even if it's just a couple of quid.
