Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Towards the end of 2009 I was offered the opportunity to participate in a bike ride for charity across Asia. I thought great, I live in Asia and I always try to do my best for charity. Impulsively, as usual, before I had read the itinerary in detail, I submitted my application and waited for the confirmation. In the meantime, I re-read the ride plan and the enormity of the challenge became apparent! 525 km over 8 days from Ho Chi Minh in Vietnam to Siem Reap in Cambodia, encountering rolling hills and hot, humid days in the saddle. For anyone who has been to Thailand, or anywhere in South East Asia for that matter, will know that the region does not exactly have a cool, refreshing climate – quite the opposite in fact! Coupled with this, when it rains, it really rains! However, despite not having ridden a bicycle in about 4 years and having only 6 weeks left to train, I have purchased a brand new bike and booked my flight to Vietnam for the 24 of February.
Engineers Against Poverty is an independent charity that works with industry, government and civil society to fight poverty and promote sustainable development. By participating in this challenge I am supporting efforts to influence corporate and public policy and help develop practical solutions aimed at creating jobs, promoting enterprise development and improving education and training in some of the world's poorest countries.
I do believe this is for a very good cause and I would appreciate your support, through donations as well as moral – I am going to need it! Please also feel free to forward this to your friends - every little helps!
