My challenge
On the 10th September 2009 I am going to Everest Base camp to trek for two weeks. I will be starting at 8700ft and finish at 17350ft over the course of 6 days and then trekking back down to where we started!
I have been training very hard for this since January 2009. I climbed Snowdon in July 2009, spent a week long trekking in the mountains of Lebanon in June 2009 (pictures to follow) and trekked the Seven Sisters on the coast in July 2009 also.
Over the past few weeks I have been high altitude training to get a feel of how it will be like on Everest. Part of my traning programme has been walking 6 miles everyday, training in the gym several times a week and recently started running. Those of you who know me will know this is not something I would have been part taking in this time last year. You might think that my senses have departed and you are probably right, but its all for a good cause!!!
Walking has become a hobby, and to my surprise I very much enjoy it and on my weekends I like to walk long distances, sometimes up to 25 kilometres!!!
Please dig DEEP and give generously as this is a very worthy cause. Two of the places where I trained as a Pathologist house two internationally renouned Cancer Treatment Centres - Children's Cancer Centre of Lebanon (CCCL) of the American University of Beirut (AUB) Medical Centre, affiliated with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Memphis, Tennessee, and The Mount Vernon Cancer Treatment and Research Trust (CTRT). I am very familiar with the fantastic clinical and research work undertaken by the Consultant Oncologists and their teams. So as you can see these two charities are very personal to me and I aim to raise as much as I can for them.
The ChallengeA 2 week trekking to Everest Base Camp leaving on 10 September 2009 ending at above sea level. I intend to raise money for two charities which actively research and treat cancer in Children and adults. I am lucky to have been able to train as a pathologist in both centres – Mount Vernon and the AUBMC.
