Fifteen years ago I contracted meningitis whilst at university. I was seriously ill with it, in fact it nearly finished me off. However, I survived, with few serious after effects. Others are not so lucky.  This disease kills, and when it doesn't kill it can cause brain damage, organ failure, blindness and deafness and require amputations, sometimes of all limbs.  And it does this fast, sometimes in a matter of hours.  And the younger you are, the quicker it can act and the worse it can be.

It doesn't have to be this way.  The Meningitis Research Foundation works towards both prevention and cure of this devestating disease, looking for better drugs and training, whilst working with high risk groups such as children, students and those that are forced to live in close quarters to raise awareness of the disease and how to spot the symptoms.  After all, the faster the response, the better the outcome. 

Please help me to support this vital work and ensure that those unlucky enough to suffer meningitis are lucky enough to come out the other side with as few problems as possible.  Please remember that the next victim could be your child, a member of your family or friends, even you.
