I was very lucky to have known and be close such an inspirational person, Alex lewis lived his life to the full but sadly past away in February this year with osteosarcoma after marrying his wonderful wife Ali 5 days prior. Alex was such a great person and was never without a smile and always such a fun person to be around. Alex's wish was to raise awareness about bone cancer and a charity called ' Bone cancer research trust' In order to keep his memory we will be cycling almost 300 miles in 6 days from Rhossili Bay in the south of Wales to Treyarnon Bay in Padstow Cornwall. These two places were very special to Alex and also where his ashes are buried.
Around 450 people are diagnosed with bone cancer each year in the UK and Republic of Ireland, mainly affecting children and young people between the ages of 10 and 24. The most common types of bone cancer are osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma.
As bone cancer is rare, research into primary bone cancer currently gets very little funding from other sources. Almost half of those diagnosed with osteosarcoma will not survive longer than 5 years and this is something that everyone involved desperately wants to try and improve. BCRT sets out to improve the outcome for people with primary bone cancer through research, awareness, information and support.
Please can you give as much as you can as this is such a worthy cause and if you were impacted by Alex: a life fast forward which was on BBC3 and can be seen on the iplayer please donate
thankyou and please always remember when ever times get tough take a second and think of alex, the most wonderful man i have or will ever meet.
