Battle 2 Brive Cycle Challenge · 20 April 2013 ·

Mencap wants a world where people with a learning disability gain an equal right to choice opportunity and respect. We believe that support for the families and carers of people with a learning disability is vital to achieving our vision

Story

In 1997 rugby teams Brive and Pontypridd were involved in a heated encounter during a Cup match, which became known as the infamous Battle of Brive.  Mencap Cymru is reconnecting the two towns by organising a gruelling charity cycle ride from Pontypridd to Brive.

The money raised in the challenge will help us campaign against learning disability hate crime. Many people become victims of attacks, thefts and bullying all because they have a learning disability. We can provide support to individuals who have experienced abuse, and help them report it to the police.

The challenge open to all levels of fitness and to those wanting to get fit!

It all kicks off on Saturday 20th April 2013 at 9am from Pontypridd Rugby Club, Sardis Road.

The cyclists will arrive on Saturday 27th April in time for the last home game of the season at Brive. Supporters from both sides are welcome to come along and cheer at the finish line.  Everyone is then invited to a traditional Correzien barbecue and dance in the evening.
