YAC North Wiltshire: 6k6k6000 years in 6000 metres
On 18 May the North Wiltshire Branch of the Young Archaeologists’ Club is raising funds for the Dig Deep for YAC! campaign by walking through 6000 years of the past in 6000 metres.
Starting on Walkers Hill and taking in Milk Hill and Knap Hill north of the Pewsey Vale, Young Archaeologist Club members aged between 8 and 16 and their volunteer leader team including me will be completing four archaeology challenges as they walk four miles of Wiltshire’s chalk Downland.
The Young Archaeologists’ Club (YAC) is the only UK-wide club for young people aged up to 17 interested in archaeology. The club is run by Council for British Archaeology, an educational charity working for over 65 years to promote ‘Archaeology for All’. Local Branches organise hands-on activities for young people across the UK to enjoy.YAC’s vision is for all young people to have opportunities to be inspired and excited by archaeology, and to empower them to help shape its future.
Like many organisations and charities, it is facing a challenging financial future. The withdrawal of its main source of public funding has had a major impact on the organisation’s finances. We believe that YAC offers a fantastic range of opportunities for young people to get into archaeology, and are determined to make sure that we can continue to support them and the more than 400 volunteers who give up their time to make the YAC Branches work.
Thank you for sponsoring us on our 6k6k challenge!Keep a look out for photos from the event to find out how we did…
