On Sunday 30 October I dusted off my trainers and ran the Standard Chartered Nairobi Half Marathon, and just made it over the finish line 2hrs7m. Thank you to everyone who has supported that run, it is greatly appreciated!
Not content with one run - and to help hit that £250 target, I have decided to carry on running!
I dodged the galloping wildebeest to run the Masai Mara half-marathon on Saturday 19 November (in a slightly slower time of 2hrs30mins - it was hot!) and also plan to run the Mount Kilimanjaro half marathon in February 2012.
Any donation you can make will be massively appreciated- I am running to support the organisation I am working with here in Kenya - the Kenya Hospices and Palliative Care Assocation.
It is very challenging for charities based in Kenya to raise money online, and the London based charity Hospice Care Kenya have very generously agreed to ensure funds received through this justgiving page are sent to KEHPCA here in Kenya, so the money will come to KEHPCA via HCK.
This is the first time KEHPCA has ever been able to raise money online, so we are incredibly grateful for HCK's support.
I can guarantee from the Six months I have been in Kenya so far that every penny you donate will be going to an extremely worthy cause!
You can read all about KEHPCA's work here: http://kehpca.org/
Any amount donated, large or small, will be gratefully appreciated :)
Thank you! Julia x

About KEHPCA
The Kenya Hospices and Palliative Care Association (KEHPCA) was formed to represent all palliative care service providers in Kenya. KEHPCA’s mission is to scale up palliative care services to bridge the very significant gap between those who receive services and those in need.
KEHPCA’s intensive work over the past four years since establishment in 2007 has seen the number of free standing hospices in Kenya grow from seven to twenty three, reaching an estimated total of 30,000 patients each year, the number of palliative care units increase from eight to twenty one, and over 1,000 Kenyan health care professionals trained in aspects of palliative care.
About Hospice Care Kenya
Since 1991 HCK has worked tirelessly to support the development of the hospice movement across Kenya, supporting terminally ill people. HCK now supports the work of KEHPCA and at least ten hospices and their outreach clinics which provide palliative care (symptom control and promoting quality of life) to people dying from painful terminal illnesses including HIV/AIDS. Your Gift Aid on donations will support HCK.
