Story

I'm raising funds to purchase sensory equipment for the heart ward at the Evelina Children's Hospital in London in memory of our daughter, Lana Olivia, who lost her fight aged 16 months.

Bridgette and I spent 7 months looking after Lana in one of the 4 private side rooms at the Evelina from October 2011 - May 2012.

Lana was diagnosed with an inoperable heart condition and spent the last 10 weeks of her life, waiting for a heart transplant.

The Evelina and it's staff became our home and family for the 7 months we were there with Lana, bouncing back and forth from intensive care to the ward.

Our extended family at the hospital reaffirmed our faith in human nature.

What became apparent during our stay was that whilst there are amazing, dedicated play staff and a school at the hospital, very sick children that are confined to the cardiac ward have very limited access to sensory equipment.

Our main aim is to make their stay in hospital, under very difficult circumstances, as pleasurable and calming as possible and to take their minds off their illnesses.

Lana's legacy:-

1) To bring awareness of the lack of organ donations, expecially for children. (Not a single heart transplant was undertaken in the UK in the 1st 6 months of 2012).

2) To help stimulate sick children and for them to enjoy the benefits of sensory equipment.

Thank you for taking the time to read Lana's journey and your donations will help lighten many childens lives.
