Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Having successfully completed the 3 Peaks Challenge in 2009 I thought I had better think of another insane event for 2010..  And then my friend Linden suggested the London to Paris bike ride.

The Challenge:

300 miles in the saddle in 4 days .. How hard can that be!!  Starting in Blackheath on 12 May 2010 and ending in Paris on 15 May 2010 it seems easy doesn't it!!! (I had better start the practice rides soon)

The Charity:

The Childhood Eye Cancer Trust

The Reason:

Partly for me to continue on my weight loss / fitness regime, plus I enjoy these sort of challenges having ridden London to Brighton three times but more to raise money for a good cause.  For those of you who haven't heard of the charity here is a bit of information:

What is Retinoblastoma?

Retinoblastoma (Rb) is a fast growing eye cancer of early childhood. This cancer develops in the cells of the retina, the light sensitive lining of the eye. More than nine out of ten children with retinoblastoma can be cured, and it has one of the best cure rates (95-98%) of all the cancers which develop in children.

Retinoblastoma occurs in two forms: a genetic, inheritable variant and a non-genetic, non-inheritable form. Approximately 45% of children with retinoblastoma have the inheritable or genetic form of the disease. When there is no previous family history of retinoblastoma, the disease is called sporadic.

80% of children with RB have to have an eye removed (and in genetic cases some children may lose both eyes), however early diagnosis may improve this statistic.  The charity is working to raise awareness of the symptoms and existence of this rare condition in order to do this.  Please visit their website for more details www.chect.org.uk.
