Story

In Memory of a wonderful Sister who sadly passed away peacefully January 23rd 2011.

The picture you can see is of me with my Big Sis, Jill.

Jill was the pretty girlie girl in our family and I was the scruffy Tomboy, as in the picture Jill has long flowing hair and I have a Mum’s special basin cut.  Jill left school and went to college to study to be a secretary and I wanted to be a Soldier or a Brick Layer.

Jill always, always takes care of her appearance and me, well I was never too bothered, even wearing a Tesco plastic bag in my Punk days, however, as I got older and different hormones kicked in I found myself getting a bit girl-ish, so at the ripe old age of 45, I decided for the first time in my life to have long hair (I mean hair way past my shoulders) so I started to grow my hair with the help of my hair dresser Jodie.

18 months later I'm well on the way to having long flowing hair just like my sister and I love it (apart from the grey) and I discovered my hair was not boring and straight but it actually has a kink in it when it gets to a certain length imagine that eh!

Recently we found out my Sister has Ovarian Cancer Stage 3c, and apart from surgery, she needs to have Chemo, this has been devastating news for all of us as a family.  She is now facing a tough battle to beat the Cancer which is in an advanced stage.

With the Chemo she could loose her hair and maybe even her eyebrows and lashes, for someone who always take pride in their appearance this is very hard to come to terms with.

As much as I would love to I cannot take the cancer away, and I cannot do anything to ease the effects of the Chemo, so to support my sister in a small way I can try to raise some money that will go towards much needed Ovarian Cancer Research.  You never know, in the next 5yrs this may help find something that may make a big difference to my Sister.

How can I do this, well that was easy, if she has to loose her hair I will too.  If the Chemo makes her hair fall out it will be about 9 weeks after starting the Chemo. This will be approx 21st September 2009, so sometime around this date I will have my head shaved.

I hope you can find it in your hearts to sponsor me and help towards the Ovarian Cancer Action charities goals.
