Dementia Australia is a unified, national charity for people living with all forms of dementia, their families and carers. We represent the 487,500 Australians living with dementia and the estimated 1.6 million Australians involved in their care. We are the new voice of Alzheimer’s Australia.

Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

As many of you have, I too have witnessed first hand the effects of dementia and Alzheimers disease.  My granny Latewood passed away after suffering from the disease for many years when I was younger.  I can remember only too well how she used to carry a doll as if it was her baby and crying because she couldn't remember who I was.

Several of my close friends now have parents who suffer from the disease and I know all too well how hard it can be to watch someone you love forget everything they know.

Dementia is the second leading cause of death in Australia. It is a collection of symptoms that are caused by disorders affecting the brain, it is not one specific disease. There is no cure.

Currently there are more than 350,000 Australians living with dementia. In Ireland it's nearly 50,000 with more women than men suffering from the disease.  The vast majority of people suffering from the disease are cared for by their family.

It's not just your memory that is affected, dementia affects your quality of life, your ability to think, communicate and do every day tasks.

Please help us to raise funds to help find a cure.

Thank you
