Why Water Aid?
Did you know 844 million people don't have clean water close to home?
This summer 100 of us in HSBC are venturing to the Arctic to raise money to help WATERAID bring clean water and toilets to people all over the world.
Clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene should be a normal part of everyone’s daily life. Without all three, people can’t live dignified, healthy lives.
With all three, they can unlock their potential, break free from poverty and change their lives for good. With clean water, decent toilets and good hygiene, children are born healthier.
They get the chance to go to school and grow up to become adults. Women and men get to earn a living. Whole communities start to thrive. It sounds normal and it should be.
What will I personally be doing to earn your Sponsorship?
Along with 99 other HSBC Colleagues from around the world, I will be trekking 100km over 5 days in the Arctic Circle.
As the least densely populated territory in the world, with a population of less than 60,000, the trek will take us through untamed land, some of which is untouched by human civilisation.
A country that has 80% of its land mass covered in ice, we will be trekking cross multiple terrains such as tundra and glaciers. No group of this size has ever scaled this area.
Surviving on basic meals, camping in tents in pretty cold conditions, carrying all our own gear, tents, etc., we will be cut off from all things we take for granted, such as toilets, showers, etc..
