Meningitis is a hideous disease that strikes at random and can leave families broken within hours.Throughout my years of nursing I have cared for so many children with meningitis, many of whom died or were left with severe disabilities. Imagine the horror when our 15 year old son Edward contracted the disease. After a scary time we were very lucky that Edward made a full recovery.
We have continued to support this very active charity, who over the last 25 years, have had a vision to free the world of meningitis. They have invested in over 140 research projects, provided free information to the public and health professionals, and have supported the individuals & families affected by the disease.
To mark the 25th Anniversary the Foundation has planned a walk from Sheffield Children's Hospital, a point of diagnosis & treatment, to the Meningococcus Genome Research Laboratory in Manchester.
Don't panic, I am not planning to walk the whole way!
Chris & I will be accompanied by family & friends and walk 11.85 miles from Strines reservoir, up hill and down dale to Hope village. We will have fun and take lots of photos but I have no doubt it will be tough upon my dodgy knees!
If you would like to help us support such a worthwhile charity would you consider sponsoring me please?
