On Saturday 22nd May 2010 we are again taking part in the St Elizabeth Hospice Ladies Midnight Walk.  This is an 8 mile circular walk around Ipswich Town centre and as pointed out to those of you who were kind enough to sponsor us last year this is 7 miles further than we usually walk around town on a Saturday evening and without the wine!!

St Elizabeth Hospice is an independent charity and all of the wide ranging services are provided free of charge to patients, families and carers. It costs £11 per minute to run St Elizabeth Hospice, with annual running costs of £5.9 million. Unfortunately many of us will know of a family member or friend who has been touched by St Elizabeth Hospice care and this walk is to help them raise vital funds to help them continue to provide these services in the future.

There is something special about a group of women joining together for a common cause and the walk this year is especially significant in my (Julie) life. As some of you may be aware, I was diagnosed in mid-October 2009 with breast cancer.  I had a lumpectomy at the end of October and I started chemotherapy on 23rd November; I have my final cycle on Monday 8th March. I then have to have further surgery and by the date of the walk I hope to be finished or coming to the end of radiotherapy.  The last 5 months have been a rollercoaster ride but through it all with the help and support of family and friends I have, for the most part, remained positive and upbeat.  By taking part in the Midnight Walk 2010 I want to do what I can to help others who are a lot less fortunate than me.
