Story

Thank you for visiting our justgiving page.

Hi Everyone, Well we did it. John and I (with Helen) spent the day raising money at the Fun Day and then John and I spent the night in a car park under the stars!

Firstly we had to build a box to sleep in. This proved great fun for John who built something the size of a hotel!! True to form he decorated it with the warning that there was a grumpy old man inside. After food, drinks and chats around the fire about 40 people climbed in an array of boxes about midnight. By then it was getting very cold. John slept, as usual, as soon as his head hit the pillow, I was not so lucky and spent ages trying to get comfortable. Blankets under a sleeping bag are not a good idea, they become lumpy very quickly! And yes someone did comment on the loud snorer - me!

By 5:45am we were up again and packing while we waited for the donated breakfasts from McDonalds and clearing up the site. Was it cold, yes, did it give an understanding of how the homeless feel every night, yes. Was it worth it, yes and that is thanks to all who supported John and I to do the event.

If you would still like to donate the page stays open until June. The trainer for pre literacy skills training for parents is my job in the YMCA, which I love. If you want to find out more just ask!

Thanks again, Julie & John

Money you raise will greatly help young people in the Bedford area:

£30 provides a Crash Pad Bed for the night for a homeless young person, preventing them from having to sleep rough. They get an evening meal, bed for the night, access to washing facilities and breakfast whilst seeking more secure accommodation.

£50 provides a homeless young person their own room and access to washing facilities, internet, TV lounge in one of our hostels and also general counselling and support.

£100 provides a month of community participation activities for the residents of our hostels in order to increase their employability and social skills, to help them move on successfully.

£160 a week would pay for 21 families to receive training to improve pre-school literacy and increase their children’s life chances for the future.
