Magic Breakfast Mount Kilimanjaro Trek 2010 · 4 July 2010 ·

Children should be hungry to learn, not hungry for breakfast. Yet one in seven UK children face food insecurity. Magic Breakfast provides expert advice and breakfasts to schools in disadvantaged areas across England and Scotland.

Story

My Kilimanjaro Adventure has come to an end, and what an adventure it was!

Although I didn’t make it to the top, I was an hour into summit night and had to come back down due to suffering from Altitude sickness – I did get to over 5,000m – higher than Mount Blanc and Base Camp Everest, which I am very proud of!

It was one of the toughest things I have ever done, from being a virgin camper – wet wipes, long drop toilets (that was an experience in itself lol) and not being able to find anything no matter how organised I thought I was…to trekking one of the highest mountains, walking through different climate zones from Rain Forest, to Heathland to Desert and most of this with the clouds below us, which was truly an amazing feeling and the views were absolutely stunning!

On Day 4 we arrived at Kibo Hut after a long trek across The Saddle.  Kibo was where we would summit from that night, I spent most of the afternoon and evening in my tent and surfaced at 10.30pm to get ready to start our summit at 11.00pm, that was one of the toughest things I had to do, it would have been so easy to have stayed there, but, I wasn’t going to let that happen I vowed the only thing that would stop me would be the altitude, and sadly it did :(

I learnt a lot about myself and on reflection realise I have a lot more determination than I thought I had! It was an amazing experience with tears and laughter along the way and I came home with 9 friends for life with memories I will cherish for ever :)

So a ‘MASSIVE’ THANK YOU from myself and Magic Breakfast to everyone who has sponsored, supported and encouraged me I couldn’t have done it without you… Thank you

Jules
