Story
On Sunday 4th June, I will be taking part in the Blenheim Palace triathlon. I have watched for the past 2 years as the Thinking of Oscar team have swam, cycled and run around the beautiful grounds of Blenheim Palace and now it's my turn to take part.
Nearly 3 years ago, I was extremely shocked and saddened to hear that my friends Hannah and David had suddenly lost their son Oscar at 16 months old. I could not get my head around this news. Oscar had been diagnosed with Osteomylitis which was treated with iv antibiotics when he developed an infection in the picc line used to administer the antibiotics. He then contracted Rotavirus which lead to Encephalitis and ended his short life.
Hannah and David started Thinking of Oscar to support children and their families whilst in hospital care. They have already provided vein finder devices which make the process of taking blood from a child far less traumatic and have raised £100,000 to fund a new paediatric procedures unit at Oxford's John Radcliffe hospital. They are doing amazing work, dedicated to Oscar's memory.
