Lack of sanitation is one of the biggest problems facing the impoverished Kalomo District of Zambia. Only 50% of the country’s population has access to proper facilities which leads to regular outbreaks of serious disease.
Children are particularly at risk, with diarrhoea accountable for 15% of deaths in infants. Meanwhile older children are often unable to attend school due to water shortages, and those that do are regularly made ill by the poor facilities at local schools.
To help combat the problem, Just a Drop aims to provide five schools in the region with latrines and hand washing facilities, improving the health and attendance of more than 2,500 children.
At present the school has no access to running water. Latrines are severely sub-standard – sometimes dangerously so, and in many cases they are beyond use and abandoned by the school.
But with your help, we can change this.
For work on this vital project to begin, we must raise a further £5000 in the next three months. To support this project and help give more than 2,500 children the education they deserve please make a donation today.
Thank you.
