Birmingham and Black Country Half Marathon 2010 · 3 July 2010 ·

Every day in the UK, another 240 people wake up to the catastrophic impact of a stroke. The Stroke Association is the leading charity in the UK providing lifelong support for all stroke survivors and their families.

Story

I am running this half marathon in memory of a beautiful person, one who I was proud to call my friend.  Jenn was loved by so many people, both those who only knew her online persona and those that were lucky enough to know her in real life.  I was one of the lucky ones.

Jenn was a fun, lively, caring, witty, intelligent, kind and funny young lady and she was one of those people that was beautiful both inside and out.  In the years that I knew her, I never heard her say a bad word about anyone - that's just how she was.  She never judged anyone and on the many public discussion forums we both visited, she could always be found sticking up for the underdog.  She touched everyone that knew her.

Very tragically, Jenn died in July last year aged just 24 years old, from a stroke.  The shock travelled over the internet like nothing I had ever seen before.  She was such a friend to so many people and to this day, people still visit her facebook page to leave her messages.  She will never be forgotten.

I chose to run this half marathon in her honour.  I know it will be hard, the furthest I had ever ran before signing up for this was 4.5 miles.  I'm not expecting the training to be easy and I don't want it to be.  I want to work hard for it and I want it to be one of the biggest challenges of my life.  That's how much this beautiful person meant to me.

I love you and miss you every day Jenn, I hope you are smiling down on me come 3rd July :-)
