I am the Night Manager at Northcote, and I am doing the GREAT NORTH RUN to raise funds for the EAST LANCASHIRE HOSPICE  in Blackburn, who have been providing fine dining and palliative care services to the communities of Blackburn, Darwen, Hyndburn and the Ribble Valley.

The GREAT NORTH RUN is a challenging and gruelling  half marathon ( 13.1 miles), my training is going well and I am into the last week before the run this sunday 20/09/09, the event is going to be on television on the BBC from 09:30. my race number is 54981  so keep your eyes out for me and the rest of the team who are running in ORANGE t-shirts with the Hospice logo on the front, I hope that you can take the time to donate money to the charity, even just £1 will help, and dont forget if you pay tax GIFTAID it.

Thankyou for donating

wish me luck...

Well what more can i say " I DID IT " we started the day off very early and travelled to South Shields from Northcote.

Once we arrived in South Shields, we all set off on the Metro to the centre of Newcastle, after a short walk we met up with Chef (Nigel Haworth) and his wife who were on the grid ready to go. Myself and 2 colleagues Rachael and Ruth went to our start area, and after a short while the crowd in front of us started to move forward the atmosphere was really electric, and everyone was ready......

WE got to the start and we were off. 35 mins after the starter pistol.

i had a steady jog for the first 2 miles then started to have problems with my right knee, just before going over the Tyne Bridge, after putting on my knee support i carried on for the next mile to a mile and a half, but the pain in my knee was getting worse so i made the choice not to jog but to SPEED WALK, my colleagues also stayed with me and we continued at a good pace. Going through mile after mile till i hit my WALL at mile 10 through to mile 11 but got through with the great support of my colleagues and the crowd.

Getting to the 12th mile was really good because we could see the coast and knowing that the finish was really near, going through the last mile and a bit was really great the crowds were great and I could see the finishing area.

Going through the finish and across the line I felt the greatest sense of achievment i along with my colleagues had done it together.

I crossed the line at a time of      3hr 23min 24secs

split times

                        5k            46m    54secs

                      10k            1hr     31min    26secs

                      15k            2hr     22min    03secs

I am really pleased with my time and would like to thank everyone who has helped me by sponsoring me not only on this website but also in person.
