Ben Nevis Challenge · 24 August 2019 ·

We care for patients with a range of needs including symptom management, rehabilitation as well as end of life care. Our goal is to provide physical, psychological, social and spiritual care for our patients and their loved ones in a calm, peaceful and welcoming environment.

Story

On 19th March 2018 I lost my wonderful husband - my lobster, and my kids lost their amazing dad Scott after a very short, bravely fought battle with cancer. It was important to Scott that he didn't die at home as he wanted our house to remain a safe and happy place for his family to live after he was gone so he made the incredibly brave decision to spend his final days in St Andrews Hospice. Although he only survived for 7 days in the hospice the care he received in that short time led by the wonderful Dr Magnus Hellsten and all the team was something we will never forget. From the moment we arrived the care Scott, and all of us, received was just incredible and Scott finally got back the choice and dignity that he was so cruelly robbed of by that vile disease. As a result of that care and the ongoing support that the kids and I continue to receive we have decided to do all we can for as long as we can to raise funds for the hospice to ensure that every person who chooses to make the brave decision to spend their final days there can do so. This latest fundraising event is the biggest personal challenge for me as I take on Ben Nevis. I would never have imagined myself doing something like this and Scott would never believe it but every step will be worth it if we can raise a few more pounds for this very worthy cause. If you can, help me, help the hospice, help others. Thank you xx

St. Andrew’s Hospice endeavours to provide a high standard of specialist palliative care to the people of Lanarkshire, encompassing human dignity and compassion. As Lanarkshire's only specialist palliative care hospice, we provide multidisciplinary support for our patients, their families and carers. Whilst we receive funding from NHS Lanarkshire and other sources, this only partially covers our running costs. Continued provision of these services is only made possible by the generosity and assistance of the people of Lanarkshire.
