Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. That's my story:
After 3 miscarriages, I decided to make an appointment with the infertility department. On the day of my visit I discovered that I was pregnant again. I feared the worst. But with this one days went by but I couldn’t fully enjoy the pregnancy- I knew I could lose my baby any day.
I was 27 weeks pregnant when I got first contractions. I rushed to hospital and was given the medication to stop the contractions and steroid injections to help mature my baby's lungs.
At that point my intuition was telling me that I wasn't going to be able to carry the baby to term. My worst fears were becoming a reality! I thought I was losing my baby again! I couldn’t bear the thought of it! I thought she was so small and helpless and I couldn’t do anything! I was losing hope.
Abi was born week later, 24th of November 2007 at 28 weeks in St Mary's Hospital in Poole. She weighed 2lb11. Tiny little thing, I couldn't even hold her for a moment when she was born because the whole team of specialists waited for her on the NICU. Within minutes she was put in an incubator and hooked up to the ventilator. Me and my husband Pawel watched her fight every day. Her dad liked to call her ‘a little fighter’ and the next 53 days she spent in NICU were the biggest rollercoaster of our lives.
The staff in NICU in Poole Hospital were amazing. They looked after my daughter as well as me, giving emotional support and important advice on how to look after my baby.
There are no words to express how grateful both me and my husband are to all at Poole hospital who helped us go on and most importantly, helped our daughter live!
It was then that I thought about giving something back. I knew the Bliss foundation from the NICU so when I looked on their website and found out about the London Marathon I said to myself that this is my moment and I have to do that not just to express my gratitude but to support other parents going through the same. I experienced this trauma first hand and I know that our family wouldn’t have done it without the staff at the hospital and the support of Bliss.
When I found out that I got the place in the London Marathon 2010 I was over the moon.
This is my opportunity to express my deep gratitude and give something back as a thank you for making my family complete!!!
Why am I raising money for Bliss?
One in eight babies is born premature or sick – that's 82,000 babies every year.
Around 20,000 of these babies need intensive care and the figure is rising.
Every six minutes in the UK, a new born baby requires urgent specialist care.
Every 24 minutes, a newborn baby requires life-saving intensive care.
• Bliss is the only UK charity that helps care for premature and sick babies.
• Bliss supports parents and families emotionally and practically through what can be a traumatic time in their lives.
• Bliss funds and promotes new developments and innovations in care, supporting major clinical research projects and training for health care professionals.
My target is £2500. Will you help me to raise that money? Every penny counts so please dig deep and donate now!
Thank You
