IT ONLY TAKES £1
‘Refugees from Kenya, Somalia, Ethiopia and Djibouti are fleeing hunger and civil unrest to Dadaab, the largest refugee camp in the world. 400,000 refugees are currently in Dadaab, most of whom have no shelter, no food and no medicine after having walked hundreds of miles in hope of safety and a better life. Children are dying daily of malnutrition and the situation is described by the United Nations as the worst food crisis in the world’. – Human International.
The above quote describes the dire extent of the drought that has affected millions. Fortunately, those who are reading this have been blessed with the ability to help those in East Africa for who hunger and destitution has become a harsh reality.
The aim is to raise funds for these refugees through Doctor’s Worldwide who according to their figures have already provided 9,900 cooked meal parcels since 2nd August to newly arriving refugees and their families.
Just £1 will help to feed one person for one day.
Based on information stated on the charity’s website:
Doctor’s Worldwide have set up their own food facility to make high-energy cooked food meals, compared to many NGOs and Charities who are simply providing food packs despite many of these newly arrived refugees having no means to cook.
The organisation is not sub-contracting this kind of work and has set it up from scratch to ensure value for money and accountability.
The crisis of famine will remain and the target set may seem overly ambitious but a donation of £1 ensures that someone’s basic needs for food are met, even if it just be for a day.
