The Kingston Breakfast Run · 27 March 2011

We support The Rifles & its antecedent regiments, including via The Rifles Benevolent Trust, charity No: 1119071, which incorporates Care for Casualties & the Always a Rifleman Programme. Together the Trusts support all serving Riflemen & veterans, with the AARP meeting mental health needs.

Story

On Sunday 27th March 2011 a team of Sixth Form NCOs from KGS CCF competed in the 8.2 mile Kingston Breakfast Run in aid of The Rifles Care for Casualties appeal. Best of the runners was Peter Thomas who was 2nd in the Youth category with a creditable time of 1:06.26. Everyone finished, and David Forshaw did so having realised after 300 metres that he had forgotten to tape up his blisters! All four NCOs achieved top ten places in their category.

Since February 2007 The Rifles have lost 53 men killed, and 290 Riflemen have been seriously injured; these are the most significant losses of any regiment in recent conflicts, and they may be about to get worse as the 1st Battalion deploy to Afghanistan in the next few days, to be followed by the 2nd and 5th Battalions in October. The regimental charity will need to provide significant support for many of these men for the rest of their lives, and they must do this on top of the needs of aging veterans from earlier conflicts. This year they need to raise £1 million, a target which is still a long way off. You can find out more about the appeal at www.careforcasualties.org.uk. Anything you can give will be very gratefully received.

Now for the practical part. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they will never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they will send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer.
