KIDS is the disabled children and young peoples’ charity. We work to give disabled children and young people a happy childhood and a brighter future.
Our vision is world in which all disabled children and young people realise their aspirations and their right to an inclusive community, which supports them and their families.
Our mission is to enhance the lives of disabled children, young people and their families through play, leisure, education, family support information, advice and training; empowering them to change their society.
KIDS is unique; there is no other organisation dedicated to providing such a extensive range of services to disabled children and young people irrespective of medical condition or disability aged 0-25 years in partnership with parents and carers.
Why our work is important:
- 8 out 10 families with a disabled child report they are at breaking point
- A disabled child is 7 times more likely to be excluded from school than their mainstream peers
- 1 in 5 families with a disabled child cut back on food to make ends meet
- It costs 3 times more for a family to raise a disabled child
