My story

On Monday 26th March I reached what I view as a milestone in my training...

I maintained a conversation whilst doing interval training on the treadmill! 25 minutes in, I held my own chatting with my personal trainer (who I have made friends with) and continued to run for 2 minutes, walk for one throughout.

In 40 minutes of interval training I covered 5.46km and did a cardiovascular warm up for 10 minutes before and after. The plan is to do this three times a week and then with a big run at the weekend to build up my endurance. One rest day a week, one day where I do a nice stretching class like Pilates and one day where I do a scary class like boxing circuits or spinning.
I've finally starting to get into a bit of a rhythm with the running and quite enjoying the mini goals of interval training which seem to trick my brain into keeping my legs moving a bit longer than otherwise.
Hopefully after a couple of weeks of the above and a couple of big runs I'll be able to extend the minutes running  and gradually do away with the walking in between.

9.3kph seems to be a sustainable but decent speed so if all goes according to plan, I'll be crossing the finish line after just over an hour of running.

As we start 2012, my first full year without Dad, thank you so much to all those who have demonstrated such support and love by donating. Gym sessions so far have been a bit of a battle so your encouragement is so appreciated.

Thank you for taking a look at my fundraising page.

Many of you will know that in May, my Daddy suddenly died of a brain haemmorage.

Amongst so many other things I miss desperately, Dad was a talented gastroenterologist who patients and colleagues admired and respected, to the point that patients have even published letters in the paper since hearing of his unexpected death, and a unit at High Wycombe hospital has been named in memory of him.

I cannot continue or begin to understand the intricacies of his work, but CORE was chosen by his colleagues as a charity to which people could donate at his funeral. CORE funds research into the entire range of gut, liver, intestinal and bowel illnesses.

Every bank holiday at the end of May for many years, Dad had taken a group of friends to walk in Snowdon. He'd prepare incredible 3-course meals to cook in youth hostel facilities for the group of walkers/scramblers. So one year after his death, when he would have been climbing mountains, I will be running the BUPA 10k in memory of Dad and to raise money for his field of medicine.

Those who know me will know that I am no athlete and phases of going to the gym are only that, phases. Please support me by giving generously and remembering my wonderful father.

Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.

My updates 2

All done! On possibly the hottest day - central London and next to no shade made it extraordinarily hot. But I didn't come last and finished in 1hr 14mins 52 secs.

Thank you so much for all your sponsorship. With just over a week to go, I am completely overwhelmed by all your support. After a tearful week of training, last Saturday 12th May I ran 10k on the treadmill in 65mins! I only wish I didn't have to do it again!
