Industry Boxing: Ladies Only for Refuge charity · 19 September 2017

Refuge opened the world’s first refuge in West London in 1971. We support thousands of women & children every day, experiencing domestic and sexual violence, female genital mutilation, forced marriage, stalking, trafficking, prostitution & so-called ‘honour’ based violence.

Story

One femme in four will experience intimate partner violence at some point in their lifetime and two are killed each week in England and Wales by current or former partners.

I am taking part in Industry Boxing to support Refuge - the country’s largest single provider of specialist support to women and children escaping violence and abuse.

I will endure 10 weeks of hardcore boxing training before participating in a final fight night on November 23rd @ the Clapham Grand. I was certain that the training would take the form of a montage set to eighties power pop mostly in my head, but actually it's turned out to be much sweatier than that (yes, we've started already and I'm still here).

Please donate some pennies, or alternatively, spend the grand old sum of £35 for the privilege of watching me get punched right in my face – a minimum £10 per ticket bought will be donated directly to Refuge.

Tickets are available from www.industryboxing.co.uk, it's absolutely key that you mention my name so they know who it is getting punched in their faces for them.*

Refuge provides a national network of specialist services, including emergency refuge accommodation, community outreach, independent domestic violence advocacy (IDVAs), culturally specific services and a team of child support workers. Refuge also runs the Free 24-Hour National Domestic Violence Helpline in partnership with Women's Aid.

For more information about the charity please visit refuge.org.uk or follow Refuge’s work on Facebook.com/refugecharity and Twitter.com/refugecharity.

* I see no irony whatsoever in any of this please stop trying to point out the irony. Anyone who points out any irony will lose 10 friendship points and my respect forever.
